Pidcock Takes Second at Tre Valli Varesine

Tom Pidcock claimed another podium finish in Italy with second place at Tre Valli Varesine, completing a strong performance for Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.

Pidcock attacked on the final climb with 15 kilometres remaining and was joined by Jarno Widar and Matteo Jorgenson at the front. The trio contested the finish, where Widar took victory ahead of Pidcock and Jorgenson.

Earlier in the race, Marcel Camprupí and Thomas Gloag were struck by a police motorbike, an incident Pidcock addressed after the finish:

“Today was a little bit more unpredictable. I’m happy that we could be fighting for a podium in the end. It was not the easiest race, and we had to ride on our own at the start. We said: ”We’re not going to isolate ourselves.” Mark (Donovan) did a great job controlling by himself, holding the gap. It was quite big. 6-7 minutes, but then UAE came to help. A police motorbike was going the wrong way down the course and crashed into two of our guys. From this point... First of all, I wanted to stop the race, stop racing myself. I was mad. I had guys all riding in front of me, for me, and then two of them are on the floor. Luckily, Marcel was OK. He could continue. Tom was also OK in the end, but he stopped the race. He had some stitches in the knee. This shouldn’t happen. But we continued and got back into the race and I’m happy that I could be on the podium. It was a shame I couldn’t win, but I’m so happy. Very impressive sprint by Widar.”
