Moschetti Back On The Podium At The Tour Of Guangxi

Matteo Moschetti delivered another podium finish for Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team today, taking second place on Stage 5 of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi after approximately 170 kilometres of racing from Jinchengjiang to Yizhou.

The Italian sprinter was well supported by his teammates in the closing kilometres, with Emīls Liepiņš providing an excellent lead-out before Moschetti launched his sprint. A brief interruption to his acceleration prevented him from fully contesting the victory, but he still secured a strong second place.

The result adds to a 2026 season in which Moschetti has repeatedly been among the leading sprinters, collecting the following podium finishes:

23 May – Veenendaal–Veenendaal (178.8 km) – 1st

19 June – La Route d'Occitanie, Stage 2 (200.5 km) – 2nd

20 September – Grand Prix d'Isbergues (202 km) – 2nd

11 October – Hong Kong Cyclothon (100 km) – 3rd

17 October – Gree-Tour of Guangxi, Stage 5 (170.1 km) – 2nd

Matteo Moschetti said:

"It's a shame because I was really close, and finishing second is never particularly satisfying. I've struggled a bit over the last few days and haven't had the best sensations since Hong Kong, so I really wanted to make the most of this final sprint opportunity.

"The guys did a great job in the finale, and Emīls positioned me perfectly until the last 300–400 metres. I then took the wheel of the riders ahead, but just as I started my sprint, I had to stop pedalling briefly to avoid another rider. Without that interruption, I think I could have achieved an even better result.

"It's disappointing, but I'm pleased to finish my season with a good performance, and I want to thank the whole team for their work."

One final day of racing in 2026

The Gree-Tour of Guangxi concludes tomorrow with the sixth and final stage, covering approximately 166 kilometres from Yizhou to the uphill finish at Nongla Scenic Spot. The decisive final climb will provide the last opportunity to shape the general classification, with Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team turning its attention to Tom Pidcock.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the Veneto Classic will take the peloton from Cittadella to Bassano del Grappa, bringing the team's 2026 racing calendar to a close.

Two final races, two opportunities to finish the season strongly. From Monday, attention will turn fully to preparations for 2027.
