La Vuelta a España Is Underway with Technical ITT

La Vuelta a España is officially underway following a short, intense, and technical time trial through the streets of Monaco. On the 9.4 km opening stage, the riders had to navigate a demanding course with numerous corners, short accelerations, and sections of the iconic Formula 1 circuit before the first leader’s jersey was awarded.

For Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, this marked the beginning of the third Grand Tour of the season, as the team has now participated in all three Grand Tours for the first time in its history.

Xabier Mikel Azparren delivered the team’s fastest ride of the day, stopping the clock at 11:26:19 to finish 39th.

"It was a technical course that wasn’t 100 percent suited to the top time trial specialists. In our case, it was not ideal for Azparren. On the other hand, it was a good way to open up the body ahead of stages like tomorrow’s, where we want to be involved in the finale. It could be a good day for tempo riders like Gonzales."

Alex Sans Vega, Sports Director

Sunday, the race continues with a 214.3 km stage from Monaco to Manosque, where Marcel Camprubí will wear the Spanish Champion’s jersey for the first time in his home Grand Tour.

Tadej Pogačar won the stage in 10:57:14.
