“Welcome to the Tour!” - Pidcock and Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team Show Intent on Stage 2

The 2026 Tour de France truly came to life on Sunday as Stage 2 took the peloton 168.5 km from Tarragona to Barcelona. After a fast opening section along the Mediterranean coast, the race exploded on the demanding finishing circuit around Montjuïc, where repeated climbs and relentless pace created the first real selection of this year's Tour.

From the very first kilometres, Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team made its intentions clear. The team was the first to take control at the head of the peloton, setting the pace to manage the day's three-man breakaway and keeping the race firmly under control throughout the opening phase.

As the race entered the final laps of the Montjuïc circuit, the intensity increased dramatically. The fierce pace steadily reduced the bunch, with Tom Pidcock consistently holding an excellent position near the front, confidently navigating one of the fastest and most demanding finales of the season.

The British rider crossed the line in 10th place after another assured performance that reflected both his growing condition and the collective commitment shown by the entire team throughout the day.

"We took control today. We were not afraid to keep ourselves in the game. Chapeau to the boys.

I think, in the end, just missed a little bit of that race speed. But it's nice to be reminded how high the level is in the Tour. Get a nice reality check.

But actually, I think I can be quite happy with the legs. Top 10. It's not bad, is it? So we can take that and build on it.

Felt pretty cool leading the peloton with the boys on the first part of the race. That was nice.

So, yeah, it's the Tour de France. Welcome to the Tour!"

The race now heads north on Monday for Stage 3, a 195.9 km journey from Granollers to Les Angles. Crossing into France for the first time in this edition of the Tour, the stage features more than 3,800 metres of elevation gain, including the Category 1 Col de Jau before an uphill finish that is expected to provide the first significant test for the general classification contenders.
