Tom Pidcock takes second after unforgettable Milano–Sanremo showdown!
Tom Pidcock delivered a remarkable performance at Milano–Sanremo, securing an outstanding second place after a gripping, head-to-head battle with Tadej Pogačar that was decided only in the final meters on the Via Roma.
In one of the most intense and memorable editions of La Classicissima in recent years, Pidcock matched every acceleration and move, riding with authority over the decisive phases and committing fully to the final showdown. The two riders broke clear and remained locked together all the way to the line, where Pidcock was narrowly beaten in a dramatic two-man sprint.
The result carries both pride and the sting of how close it came.
"No one can be completely disappointed to be second at Milano–Sanremo behind Tadej Pogačar… but when you’re beaten by such a small margin, it hurts. It was so close. If you’d asked me this morning, maybe I would have signed for second. But after a race like that, you can’t help but feel the disappointment. Still, I need to look at it differently. I did a great ride."
Tom PidcockPidcock’s performance came at the end of a perfectly executed race by the entire team, who controlled key moments, positioned him flawlessly, and ensured he entered the finale in the best possible condition to fight for victory.
Even in the heat of the battle, the respect between two of the sport’s brightest talents was evident.
"He crashed, and still he was there fighting all the way to win. As annoying as it is that he’s so good, it’s impressive."
Tom PidcockToday’s result leaves a sense of what might have been, but more importantly, it confirms the team’s direction and competitive level. Going toe-to-toe with the very best and coming within a wheel of victory underlines the strength, cohesion, and ambition of the group.
Milano–Sanremo did not deliver the win this time, but it delivered a clear statement.
The team is exactly where it needs to be.
