Italian climber Walter Calzoni returns for his 3rd season with the team after turning pro with us in 2023. Read more to learn about Walter's journey to the sport and which famous climbs he trains on to sharpen his racing.

Training amongst legends of the sport

Walter Calzoni discovered cycling at a young age through a friend who practiced the sport. He began riding at just seven years old, quickly developing a passion that would shape his path toward professional cycling.

During the season, Walter is based in Valle Camonica, a region steeped in cycling history. His training roads include legendary climbs such as the Gavia and Mortirolo, iconic ascents that have defined some of the sport’s greatest moments. The variety of terrain in the area allows him to train on all types of surfaces and gradients, making it an ideal environment to develop as a complete rider.

Training conditions vary with the seasons, from cold winters to hot summers, demanding adaptability and resilience throughout the year.

The race that excites Walter the most is the Giro d’Italia, a competition he has dreamed of since childhood and one that holds special significance for him as an Italian rider.

Looking ahead, his ambition is simple and direct: to win.

One of his most meaningful memories in cycling came with the start of his professional career.

"The 2023 season marked my professional debut and my first opportunity to race against the best athletes in the world.”"
