Former Latvian champion, Emīls Liepiņš has built his career on versatility and resilience, and making his mark in Belgian races with his first professional victory at Heistse Pijl. In 2026, he looks forward to supporting his teammates, and seizing every opportunity.
For Emīls Liepiņš, cycling runs in the family. Initially, his father was hesitant, knowing how tough the sport could be, but today he is a strong supporter, guiding and encouraging him along the way.
"My father was a road cyclist, but I started with BMX. Later, my mom brought me to a road cycling school, this is where everything started."
From Latvia to the Peloton
Based in Latvia during the season, Liepiņš trains on pancake-flat roads often exposed to strong winds, developing both power and resilience. “We have all four seasons here, so I experience everything,” he says, from freezing winter days to hot summer rides. These varied conditions have shaped him into a versatile rider, comfortable in almost any situation.
Emils looks forward most to the end-of-season races starting in August. “I really like that part of the season; there are a lot of nice races,” he explains. His goals are both personal and team-focused: to support his teammates, mentor younger riders, and make the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
One moment stands above the rest in his career: his first professional victory at Heistse Pijl in Belgium, a memory that confirmed his potential and gave him confidence to pursue bigger ambitions in the peloton.
