Belgian rider Aimé De Gendt joins Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team in 2026 looking to be a factor in not only the classics, but through the whole season. Read more to learn about how training on his home roads helps prepare him for the season and which Belgian icon was his inspiration growing up.

Built in Belgium

Growing up in Belgium, cycling was never far from Aimé De Gendt’s everyday life. With the sport constantly on television and the iconic Tom Boonen era shaping a generation, Aimé quickly found himself inspired to compete rather than just watch. What started as admiration soon turned into ambition, pushing him onto the same roads that have defined Belgian cycling for decades.

During the season, Aimé is based at home in the Flemish Ardennes. His training ground needs little introduction: the legendary roads around Oudenaarde and Geraardsbergen. From cobbles to short, punchy climbs, the terrain offers a complete mix and mirrors the demands of the races he thrives in.

Training conditions are just as varied as the roads themselves. In Belgium, Aimé faces a bit of everything, from cold and wet winter days to warmer summer conditions, an environment that builds adaptability and resilience throughout the year.

Rather than focusing on one specific period, Aimé appreciates the rhythm of the entire season. The Spring Classics hold a special place, but he also values the chance to race beyond Belgium afterward, embracing different terrain and the longer efforts required in stage races.

For the season ahead, his objective is clear: deliver a strong Spring Classics campaign with the team before taking on the challenge of another Grand Tour, while performing consistently across the entire year.

"Watching Tom Boonen win the World Championships in Madrid is my best cycling memory"
