Pidcock Powers to Podium on Demanding Catalunya Opener
Strong team display in Sant Feliu de Guíxols confirms momentum after Milano–Sanremo and Belgium, with depth and cohesion already shaping the week ahead
After a strong weekend marked by a standout performance at Milano–Sanremo and a podium finish in Belgium, the Team lined up this morning in Sant Feliu de Guíxols for the opening stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
The stage unfolded over a constantly undulating terrain, with a technical and demanding coastal finale shaped by changing winds and narrow roads, culminating in an uphill drag to the line in Sant Feliu. Positioning proved decisive throughout the final kilometres, as the peloton stretched under pressure.
Tom Pidcock delivered another high-level performance, launching a long sprint on the uphill finishing straight and securing third place at the line.
"It was really hard along the coast — up and down, with crosswinds, tailwinds, headwinds,” Pidcock explained. “We knew we had to be up there because it’s such a technical final. I had to go a bit early, but in that kind of sprint if you hesitate, it’s over. Honestly, that’s probably the best sprint like that I’ve ever done, so I can be happy. The legs felt heavy at the start but much better in the end."
Tom PidcockRiding on home roads, Marcel Camprubí embraced the opportunity to be part of the team’s effort in a demanding opening stage, contributing to positioning and control in a complex race scenario.
David De La Cruz underlined the team’s collective ambitions for the week ahead, approaching the race with clear objectives and a focus on consistency across all terrains.
The result confirms the positive momentum carried into Catalunya, with the Team showing cohesion and competitiveness from the very first stage.
Attention now turns to the upcoming stages, where varied profiles will offer further opportunities to build on this strong start.
