History Begins: Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team Makes Tour De France Debut In Barcelona.
Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team wrote a new chapter in its history today, lining up for the opening stage of the 113th Tour de France and making its first-ever appearance in cycling’s biggest race.
The team opened its Tour campaign with a solid performance in the 19.6 km Team Time Trial in Barcelona, finishing 12th in 22’44”650, 57 seconds behind stage winners Visma-Lease a Bike. Tom Pidcock was the first rider from the team across the line and now sits 18th overall, 57 seconds behind the yellow jersey.
For the Swiss ProTeam, today was more than a result sheet. It was the moment years of work, belief and progression became reality on the world’s biggest cycling stage.
Douglas Ryder, Team Principal, said:
“Today is a very proud day for everyone connected to this team. To stand on the start ramp of the Tour de France for the first time is a milestone that reflects years of ambition, commitment and belief. We have built this project step by step, with a clear vision, strong partners and a group of people who never stopped pushing to reach this level.
But this is not the end point. This is the beginning of a new chapter. We are here to race with purpose, to keep progressing, and to show who we are over the next three weeks. Today the team performed with focus and discipline in a very demanding opening stage, and now we look forward with confidence.”
Kurt Bogaerts, Head of Performance, said:
“The boys did a good ride. Of course, in a Team Time Trial every detail counts and there are always things you can improve, but the commitment was there from everyone. We stayed together, we kept the structure, and we finished with Tom in a good position.
For us, this was also about starting the Tour in the right way. It is the first day, the first effort, and now we build from here. The race is long, and we know why we are here.”
After an historic opening day in Barcelona, Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team now turns its focus to Stage 2, Tarragona – Barcelona, 168.5 km, continuing its first Tour de France with ambition, discipline and the same race-sharp mindset that brought the team to this point.
