González Takes Strong Fourth on Montjuïc as Team Closes Volta a Catalunya with Determination

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya concluded today on the demanding circuits of Montjuïc in Barcelona, where the Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team capped off a resilient and cohesive week of racing with a strong fourth-place finish by David González.

The final stage, widely regarded as one of the most selective of the race, saw a reduced group contest the finish after an aggressive and high-tempo race on the iconic climbs overlooking the Catalan capital. González delivered a composed and competitive performance against a field of world-class contenders, narrowly missing out on the podium but confirming the team’s depth and determination.

Reflecting on the week, Sports Director Alex Sans Vega (Sports Director) highlighted the team’s adaptability and commitment to collective objectives:

"We came into Catalunya with a clear plan: to fight for the general classification with Tom Pidcock and to target a stage win. The team executed very well from the first day, with strong results and full commitment around Tom. Unfortunately, his crash forced us to completely rethink our objectives for the final days. Still, the riders stayed focused, remained active in the race, and today we aimed for a top ten with González. I’m very proud of how the team reacted and of the work they put in throughout the entire week."

David González, who has consistently shown affinity with the Montjuïc circuit, underlined both the difficulty of the stage and the significance of the result:

"Montjuïc is almost the queen stage of this race. It’s always extremely hard and usually ends with a small group. I came in with confidence after good sensations in the past days, initially working for Tom. After his crash, we had more freedom and I wanted to take the opportunity. Finishing fourth is a bit bittersweet because it’s so close to the win, but I’m really happy considering the level of the riders here. It shows we can compete at the very top."

Despite the setback caused by Pidcock’s crash, the team demonstrated resilience, cohesion, and tactical clarity, staying true to its racing identity and closing the race on a high note in Barcelona.

The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team now looks ahead with confidence, building on the strong collective performance shown throughout the week in Catalunya.
