A Challenging Day for Tom Pidcock and Pinarello Q36.5 at Strade Bianche

The Strade Bianche once again delivered a demanding and selective race on the iconic Tuscan gravel roads, with the Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team showing encouraging form despite a race finale that did not fully reflect the condition of the riders. Tom Pidcock was 7th on the finish line of Piazza Il Campo in Siena.

Tom Pidcock was well positioned in the main group during the decisive phases of the race and remained active behind the race-winning move. However, small mechanical setbacks at a crucial moment on the sterrato disrupted his rhythm and forced him to expend additional energy just as the race was splitting.

Speaking after the finish in Siena, Pidcock explained:

"I had a mechanical issue on Santa Maria, and that really killed my momentum there, but it wouldn’t have been easy with Tadej anyway. I don’t think it changed the race much, apart from taking a bit more out of me. It’s so tough in the group behind when you know the race is gone. You end up thinking, “This is just the race now,” which isn’t really how it feels when one rider is off the front."

Pidcock remained committed in the chasing group as the gap hovered around the one-and-a-half-minute mark, but the effort of the earlier phases of the race eventually took its toll on the final kilometres towards Siena.

"I think that was quite a big gap when thinking about the final. I also ran out of legs in the end."

It was a more unfortunate day for Quinten Hermans, who was forced to abandon the race after a crash earlier in the event. Fortunately, initial reports indicate no serious injuries, though the incident prevented him from contributing to the finale.

Despite the setbacks, the performance on the gravel sectors confirmed the team’s competitive condition as the Spring Classics campaign continues in the coming weeks.
